HUD withdrew controversial funding policy changes a week after Nashville sued, but a federal judge criticized the agency’s last-minute move and the city’s housing funds remain uncertain.

Nashville joined a national legal challenge to new HUD funding rules that city officials say could end housing for nearly 1,000 residents and dismantle key homelessness programs.

Nashville’s city council will vote Thursday on an agreement outlining how a $15 million state public-safety grant may be used downtown, including cameras, software, a tech center and police equipment.
